A Space For Time opens its doors this September at The Gent for Amsterdam Fashion Week & GLUE

This September, together with Amsterdam Fashion Week and GLUE, Arcatype opens A Space For Time: the debut of a series of transient spaces. Hosted at The Gent, the newly renovated landmark at Herengracht 206, the exhibition transforms the building into a place to meet new work, start conversations, and draw unexpected connections.

A three-week collective experience,  A Space For Time brings together emerging brands, creative voices, and the people shaping what a hopeful future could look like, across apparel, interior, and wider lifestyle.

Technology has spent decades compressing time, closing the gap between wanting and having. Everything faster, cheaper, easier. But most things become beautiful because they take time: creativity, craft, culture, and real connection. A Space For Time celebrates the time it takes to make something well, and asks how we spend our own time as urban citizens.

“Rather than connecting through a screen, the exhibition invites visitors to meet the makers in person. Real craftsmanship is hard to experience online: it needs to be seen, felt, and touched. Meeting the people behind the clothing we wear deepens the meaning we give to it. Knowing the process behind a piece creates a bond between wearer and maker.” – Bas Slootman

We don’t need more products. Whats needed now is an elevation of quality and appreciation for the price point it requires to make it feasible. We hope our work influences a shift the conversation: from fast fashion toward pieces made to last, chosen for craft rather than for immediacy.

"The design and creative industry is very focused on how loud you can shout as an individual. With our work we hope to build a more collaborative environment, where designers and makers across disciplines, often speaking to the same audiences, work together on exciting projects, rather than apart." - Alexandra Schott

Every participant is selected on three pillars: Craft, the quality of the making; Character, a distinct design philosophy; and Care, for people and planet.

For the duration of the month, garments will be shown alongside a collection of interior objects. With this multi-disciplinary approach, Arcatype aims to build connection between the different sectors of design.
